4E-CONSULTING presented the SAE paper on 2-stroke high speed diesel engine new concept
SIAT event is the most important venue in India as far as Automotive, powertrain and related new technologies are concerned.
SIAT 2017 in particular received a wide international reconnaissance, being the 50th anniversary of the organizer (ARAI) foundation.
In this peculiar environment, 4e-consulting has been honored to present a SAE paper focused on an alternative way to achieve the challenging target of BS VI (equivalent in India to Euro 6) by 2020.
The proposition is based on a new approach to an old technology, i.e. the 2-stroke diesel.
Having today the possibility to renew the 2-stroke diesel concept by utilizing new technologies like the high injection pressures of Common rail systems, coupled with new 3D CFD simulations tools for intake/exhaust flow and combustion analysis, the high speed, small displacement, 2-stroke diesel engine has now the possibility to deploy its intrinsic potential of:
· high power density
· low emission, particularly Nox and
· simple and cost effective construction
It may become the alternative to the costly after-treatment that would make the small diesel on Passenger car uneconomical when BS VI will come into force. A very basic after-treatment system, an easy packaging in the small engine booth of an entry level passenger car, so common on the Indian roads, will make the 2-stroke high speed diesel a real alternative to the gasoline and hybrid solution, further reducing the already very low fuel running cost of current diesel cars.
In addition to the small Pass car, a number of alternative uses may be envisaged, whenever the high-power density and economical running cost is the key factor.
Due to above huge potential, the large interest in the technology resulted in various contacts with main players in the automotive sector.
Additional technical cooperation and development activity are presumed to flourish out of this event.
